How should you respond when someone is in psychological distress?

Many of us feel helpless when a loved one or a colleague is experiencing mental distress. We may struggle to find the right words or lack the confidence to respond appropriately. Mental Health First Aid courses provide simple, accessible tools to support someone in difficulty, encourage them to seek professional help, and make a meaningful difference in their daily life.

Over the course of several days or half-days, participants gain a solid understanding of mental health conditions and crises. Through interactive exercises and role-playing, theoretical knowledge is reinforced with practical skills for immediate application.

STANDARD

For adults who want to help other adults.

PSSM Standard

The PSSM Standard course is designed for adults who want to support other adults ( relatives, friends, or colleagues) who are showing signs of psychological distress. It is based on the five ROGER first aid actions for identifying and addressing mental health issues at an early stage. Participants learn how to recognise the early signs of psychological difficulties, respond without judgement, and encourage those affected to seek professional help.

Terms and conditions

Target audience: From age 18
Format: Face-to-face courses or webinars
Languages: DE/FR
Duration: 4 modules of 3 hours each, which can be organised in various ways, for example:

Over 4 weeks: 1 module per week, typically half-day sessions

Over 2 weeks: 2 full days with 2 modules per day
Prices: €27 (reduced to just €1.50 with the Kulturpass, and free with the European Youth Card)

YOUTH

Specially tailored for adults who want to help young people.

PSSM Youth

The PSSM Youth course is specifically designed for adults who want to support young people. Its aim is to equip them with the skills needed to intervene appropriately in cases of psychological disorders in adolescents. While the course shares the same fundamental principles as the Standard course, it is adapted to address the specific characteristics of mental health issues in young people.

Target audience: From age 18; School staff, educators, parents and other adults interested in supporting young people with mental health problems.
Format: Face-to-face courses or webinars
Languages: DE/FR
Duration: 4 modules of 3.5 hours each, which can be organised in various ways, for example:

Over 4 weeks: 1 module per week, typically half-day sessions

Over 2 weeks: 2 full days with 2 modules per day
Prices: €31 (reduced to just €1.50 with the Kulturpass, and free with the European Youth Card)

TEEN

Teach teenagers how to help other teenagers.

PSSM Teen

The PSSM Teen course teaches teenagers how to help other teenagers with mental health problems by referring them to an adult. These courses are deployed in schools where at least 20% of staff have been trained in PSSM Youth and are offered each year to all classes at the same level. High schools must also agree to train in-house instructors capable of running the courses independently, after the first year of implementation.

Terms and condition

Target audience: Pupils in secondary schools, for a given school year
Prerequisite: 20% of school staff trained in PSSM Youth
Organisation: The courses are offered annually to all classes at a specific school level. They are organised and run by the school itself, with the help of its trained instructors. The first courses are run in collaboration with the Ligue Santé Mentale, which then allows the secondary schools to organise and run the courses themselves.
Duration: 3 modules of 100 minutes, i.e. 3 double lessons
Languages: DE/FR
Prices: Free for pupils. Secondary schools purchase textbooks at a cost of €10. This amount will be reimbursed by SCRIPT.
